Race report "Sounds of Speed"
The "Salzburgringclassic" www.salzburgringclassic.de last weekend wasnt an easy task for the Jensen and me. Biggest problem was my lack of driving expierience on a race course. Before start I got a short briefing of a friendly racer which helped a lot. Use the outside lane when you are slow, dont look in the rearviewmirror, etc. etc. Surprisingly I managed the turns quite well with the skinny Pirelli tires. After some laps the Jensen got more and more easier to handle, because of hot tires and traction loss. Unsurprisingly the long straights were no problem with 500cubes and some horsepower. On the 1km backstraight I lifted the throttle at 145mph scared to topout at 155mph before Fahrerlager turn. The Jensen had the ability to outrun any other car in its class. Quite annoying is that you can overtake fast racecars(slicks mounted) on the straight for a short time, but even then they have sometimes 20sec. faster laptimes. Biggest drawback was my disability to brake efficiently before turns. I braked in rates several times I was too fast or too slow, one time the brakes faded.
Conclusio:
half hour racing = 10 gallons of aviation gas
loose exhaust system
brakepads almost gone plus major wear on disks
major wear on tires
one time I smoked the 3rd gear clutch pack of the TF727
no engine problems, neither cooling or oiling
major drawback my own driving skills
lots of fun
addiction factor very high
